It’s All About the Journey

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end. – Ursula K. LeGuin, Author
That quote sets the tone for our second issue of San Joaquin Woman magazine. At times we become fixated on reaching a specific goal or destination. But it helps to remember that enjoying the journey itself is what ultimately brings us joy. Besides, how many of us can say we enjoy hearing, “Are we there yet?” constantly during a trip? It’s the same concept.
Earlier this year, San Joaquin Delta College produced a major three-part event featuring the works of their fashion design students. The designs showcased ranged from theatrically edgy to elegant simplicity. As you’ll see for yourself, this area is rich with local talent. It is likely that the work of these young designers will be appearing on prominent fashion runways and in major publications as they launch their careers. It will be fun to one day say, “I first saw that designer’s work in San Joaquin Woman magazine…”
For the daily trek down your own career path, we offer some “tools” to help you find your way. How you present yourself in your résumé can be the deciding factor on whether or not you are even invited to interview for a plum position. In this issue you’ll find ideas on how to best showcase your skills on paper in order to help you get your foot in the door.
“Beauty through the Ages” shows that true beauty is much more than just skin deep. The eight local women, ages 37 to 96, in this feature are not only aging exceptionally well, but are journeying through life with an amazing verve. I find their stories especially inspiring as I prepare to celebrate my own personal milestone of turning 40 in September. Bring it on!
